Laura Barth Turner is an artist and photographer living and working in Austin, Texas. She was born and raised in Houston, TX, received her B.A. in Photography from Bard College in Annandale, NY, and her MFA from The University of Texas at Austin.

Growing up in a city like Houston, with its urban sprawl, intense heat, constant re-invention of itself, and lack of natural beauty (despite having much man-made beauty, in the form of art and architecture) made Laura highly sensitive to the way one’s surroundings - be it landscape, architecture, place or physical history- can affect the human spirit.

Her most recent project was shot on a three-week long road trip through the American Southwest, California, and Pacific Northwest - where she followed the path of unprecedented and massive wildfires. This circumstance allowed her to examine historically beautiful landscapes (and their photographic lineage) from an unfamiliar perspective. This ongoing project deals with a re-imagined romance of the western landscape, our changing climate, and man's relationship to both.
